Amanda was just another bored, suburban divorcee and mother, until a
handsome, mystereous man thrust a package into her hands at the train
station and disappeared. It turned out he was "Scarecrow," an agent
for a secret government organization called "The Agency," and he needed
her help dodging Russian spies. She proved to be so good at it that he
convinced her to become his partner, much to the skepticism of his boss,
Melrose, and the confusion of Amanda's family, who were never quite sure
what was going on (as she was sworn to secrecy).

Their relationship was full of quips and the hint of mutual interest,
which inspired much curiosity in her mother, Dotty. Francine was a wise-
cracking operative of "The Agency," and Philip and Jane were Amanda's
two young children. In order to deflect her friends' questions, Amanda
got a part-time job at the International Federal Film Company, which
happened to be the "cover" firm for The Agency office.
