Based on the life of stand-up comic Hughley, with Chris Rock
among the executive producers, this comedy of assimilation,
how to keep up with the Joneses and not abandon one's heritage
or pride, follows an African-American family trying to adjust
to their new home in a white-bread California suburb. The
transition is hardest for Darryl, a vending-machine king and
family man who can't believe his very blond neighbors truly
just want to get along. Is he, as Milsap (his best friend and
business partner) suggests, on the "slippery slope" to losing
his blackness? Making up the Hughley family are wife Yvonne,
and their two young children Sydney and Michael. Living
next door are Dave and Sally Rogers.
