Buffalo Bill was an unusual sitcom, in that the lead character was
not at all nice. As the host of The Buffalo Bill Show - a chat-show at
WBFL-TV, a local TV station in Buffalo, upstate New York - Bill Bittinger
is conceited, rude, obdurate, self-obsessed, narcissistic and displays a
pronounced mean streak. He's plain horrible off the air, using and abusing
his staff - his director and sometime girlfriend Jo Jo, station manager
Karl Shub, meek floor manager Woody, program researcher Wendy Killian
and the no-nonsense make-up man Newdell Spriggs - and scarcely better on it,
asking rude questions and putting down his guests to the point where the
next writ is never far away. Good always wins out, however,
which means that Bill always ends up the loser.
