Comedy series about coworkers with a mutual romantic attraction to
each other who struggle to keep their relationship strictly professional.

When cheerful, aspiring writer Hannah met neurotic investigative reporter
Marty on a plane and calmed his frazzled nerves, she did not imagine it would
lead to a new career, much less to romance. Marty got her an interview at
Chicago Weekly, where she landed a job as a researcher sitting right across
from his desk. It wasn't love at first (or even fiftieth) sight for these
two opposites, but their mutual attraction grew until
they were indeed in love by the second season.

There were revisions to the format in the second season. Marty, Hannah and Jules
still worked at the magazine but other characters were replaced. A hip new editor
was brought in and played to the hilt by performance artist Ann Magnuson. Holly
Fulger was added to give Hannah a best friend to confide her thoughts about Marty with.
One of the running bits between Hannah and Robin was that they called each other
Mrs. Shmenkman. A name they came up with years ago when they decided they would
both marry a couple of brothers named Shmenkman before they were thirty.

Also starting in the second season each episode featured an opening vignette
that featured Hannah and Marty sitting at a diner counter making
observations on life, love, etc.

Bruce Weitz was brought in as Mike Urbanek, an everyman's writer in season three.
His primary function was to become Marty's confidant for his relationship with Hannah.
